Speech disorder

Also known as: Speech impairment, Communication disorder

A condition that affects an individual's ability to produce speech sounds correctly or fluently, encompassing articulation disorders, fluency disorders, and voice disorders. Speech disorders are significant for digital accessibility because voice-controlled interfaces, speech-to-text systems, and other speech-dependent technologies often fail to accommodate atypical speech patterns. Assistive technologies such as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices provide alternative means of interaction for people whose speech is difficult to understand.
