Technology acceptance model
Also known as: TAM, UTAUT
A theoretical framework predicting how users come to accept and use a technology, originally proposing that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use determine adoption. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) extended this with factors including social influence, facilitating conditions, and user demographics. In accessibility research, these models help explain why assistive technologies may be abandoned despite being technically functional — factors like social stigma, inadequate support, and poor fit with existing practices all influence sustained adoption.
