Psychomotor testing

Also known as: Psychomotor assessment, Motor performance testing

The measurement of cognitive-motor integration — how quickly and accurately a person can translate mental intentions into physical actions such as reaching, pointing, grasping, or tapping. Psychomotor tests assess reaction time, movement speed, accuracy, coordination, and dexterity, and are used in clinical, occupational, and HCI settings to evaluate motor performance. In accessibility research, psychomotor metrics like Fitts's throughput provide standardised ways to measure how effectively a person can operate input devices, informing the design of adaptive interfaces that match interaction demands to user capabilities.
