Scene simplification
Also known as: Visual decluttering, Complexity reduction
An assistive technology approach that reduces visual complexity in real-world or digital scenes by highlighting relevant objects, suppressing background clutter, and isolating key information. Scene simplification is particularly important for people with cerebral visual impairment and simultanagnosia, for whom traditional assistive approaches like magnification may be ineffective or counterproductive. Techniques include augmented reality overlays that highlight target objects, algorithms that remove distracting background elements, and interface designs that present information sequentially rather than simultaneously.
