Augmented reality
Also known as: AR
A technology that overlays digital information — such as text, images, highlights, or 3D objects — onto the user's view of the real world, typically through smart glasses, head-mounted displays, or smartphone cameras. In accessibility applications, augmented reality can highlight relevant objects in cluttered scenes for people with CVI, provide navigation cues overlaid on the real environment for visually impaired users, display real-time captions in the visual field for deaf users, and offer contextual information about physical surroundings. AR's ability to modify rather than replace reality makes it particularly promising for users with residual vision.
