Digital divide
Also known as: Digital gap, Digital inequality
The disparity between individuals, households, or communities in access to, use of, and benefits from information and communication technologies. For older adults and people with disabilities, the digital divide encompasses not just access to hardware and internet connectivity, but also gaps in digital literacy, confidence, and usability of mainstream technology that is not designed with their needs in mind. Social isolation, low income, and cognitive decline compound the divide.
