Web disorientation

Also known as: Lost in hyperspace, Navigation disorientation

The feeling of being lost or confused while navigating websites, characterized by difficulty knowing one's current location within a site, how to return to previously visited pages, or how to find desired information. Web disorientation is predicted by Internet confidence and perceptual speed rather than age, and is exacerbated by complex navigation structures, inconsistent layouts, and excessive hyperlink density. Reducing disorientation through clear information architecture, breadcrumbs, consistent navigation, and predictable page structures is particularly important for users with lower cognitive processing speed or technology confidence.
