Chairable computing
Also known as: Chairable input, Wheelchair-integrated computing
A design paradigm in which input devices and computing interfaces are integrated into the form factor of a wheelchair — particularly armrests, trays, and frames — analogous to how wearable computing fits with clothing. Chairable devices are always within reach, require no setup or positioning by caregivers, provide physical arm support during interaction, and eliminate the risk of dropping or losing separate devices. The concept addresses the unique constraints of power wheelchair users whose range of motion is often limited by the wheelchair frame itself, making standard input devices difficult to reach or operate.
