NFC accessibility
Also known as: NFC tags for accessibility
The use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to make physical objects, materials, and environments accessible to people with disabilities. NFC tags can be embedded in physical cards, objects, or locations and triggered by tapping a smartphone or dedicated reader to deliver audio descriptions, text content, or other information in accessible formats. In workshop and educational contexts, NFC-tagged cards combining braille, large print, and audio provide multimodal access to the same content, accommodating varying levels of vision, braille literacy, and technology familiarity. NFC accessibility extends beyond workshops to wayfinding (tagged building features), museum exhibits, product labeling, and public information systems.
