Optic Ataxia
Also known as: Visuomotor Ataxia
A neurological condition characterised by impaired reaching for objects using visual guidance, despite having adequate vision and motor strength. People with optic ataxia can see an object and describe its location but struggle to accurately direct their hand toward it. This condition results from damage to the posterior parietal cortex and is commonly associated with cerebral visual impairment. In assistive technology design, optic ataxia has implications for interface interaction — touchscreens and precise pointing interfaces may be difficult to use, and visual highlighting that clearly outlines an object's shape and size can help users judge where to reach.
