Affective Engagement
Also known as: Emotional Engagement
The emotional connection and investment a user develops with a task, activity, or technology. In accessibility and therapeutic contexts, affective engagement goes beyond usability to encompass motivation, enjoyment, and emotional safety. Research shows that affective engagement can scaffold sustained attention and learning, particularly for neurodiverse users, by creating environments that feel rewarding and emotionally resonant rather than merely functional.
