Sound Representation

Also known as: Sound Depiction

The methods and conventions used to convey audio information through text in captions and other written formats. Common approaches include descriptive text (explaining the sound source and quality), onomatopoeia (words that mimic sounds), and sensory quality-focused descriptions (conveying the perceptual characteristics of sounds). Research shows that no single representation method is universally preferred; effectiveness depends on the type of sound, the viewer's hearing background, and the viewing context.
