Affinity Diagramming

Also known as: Affinity Mapping, KJ Method

A qualitative data analysis and design method where researchers or team members organize individual data points (observations, quotes, ideas) into groups based on natural relationships and themes. In accessibility research, affinity diagramming is commonly used to synthesize interview data, identify patterns in user experiences, and organize insights from participatory design sessions. The method supports collaborative analysis, allowing multiple researchers to contribute to theme identification while grounding analysis in specific data points.
