Email Anxiety
Also known as: Inbox Anxiety
Intense anxiety, dread, or avoidance behavior around checking, opening, and responding to emails, commonly experienced by people with ADHD. Email anxiety can involve physical symptoms like racing heart and nausea, fear of receiving negative feedback or reminders of missed deadlines, and difficulty initiating the task of email management. For ADHD students, email anxiety is a significant academic barrier that often requires collaborative support strategies—such as having a trusted person open emails, review content, handle urgent communications, and provide emotional reassurance during the process.
