Non-Visual Interaction

Also known as: Non-Visual Interface, Eyes-Free Interaction

Interaction techniques and interface designs that do not require sight, enabling blind and low vision users to operate software and devices through alternative modalities such as speech, keyboard commands, haptic feedback, spatial audio, and gesture. In creative tools, non-visual interaction design is critical for enabling blind users to perform tasks traditionally considered visual, such as positioning elements on a canvas, selecting colors, and evaluating compositions. Effective non-visual interaction preserves user agency and creative control.
