Substitution Error
Also known as: Replacement Error, Word Substitution
A type of text error where an incorrect word or character appears in place of the intended one. Substitution errors commonly arise from speech recognition misrecognition, autocorrect mistakes, or typing errors. Correcting substitutions requires navigating to the error, selecting or deleting the incorrect text, and typing or dictating the replacement—a multi-step process that is particularly burdensome for screen reader users who must perform each step without visual confirmation of cursor position and text selection.
