Cognitive Accessibility
Also known as: Cognitive A11y
The practice of designing digital content and interfaces to be usable by people with cognitive, intellectual, learning, and neurological disabilities. Cognitive accessibility addresses barriers related to attention, memory, problem-solving, comprehension, and executive function. It goes beyond traditional accessibility focused on sensory and motor impairments to consider how people process, understand, and interact with information. Key strategies include using clear simple language, consistent navigation, reducing distractions, providing multiple ways to understand content, and supporting error prevention and recovery.
