Neuroaffirmative Practice

Also known as: Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice, Neuroaffirming Approach

An approach to support, therapy, education, and technology design that affirms neurodivergent identities and ways of being rather than seeking to normalize them. Neuroaffirmative practice recognizes neurodivergent traits (like stimming, intense interests, and different communication styles) as natural human variation rather than symptoms to be eliminated. In technology design, neuroaffirmative practice means creating tools that support autistic people's own goals and preferences, accommodate sensory and cognitive differences, and respect neurodivergent communication and social styles rather than training conformity to neurotypical norms.
