Platform Accessibility

The degree to which online platforms (websites, apps, social media, marketplace platforms) are usable by and inclusive of disabled people. Platform accessibility encompasses not only technical compliance with standards like WCAG but also policies, algorithms, and moderation practices that affect whether disabled users can fully participate. Platforms may be technically accessible yet practically inaccessible due to discriminatory policies, algorithmic bias, or content moderation that disproportionately impacts disabled users. For marginalized communities, platform choice is often constrained by which platforms are both technically accessible and socially safe.
