Joystick Locomotion

Also known as: Continuous Locomotion, Thumbstick Locomotion

A VR locomotion method where users tilt a joystick or thumbstick on a controller to move continuously through the virtual environment while remaining physically stationary. This method is accessible for users who cannot physically walk but have sufficient hand motor control to operate a joystick. It provides more continuous, natural-feeling movement than teleportation but can cause simulator sickness in some users. Some wheelchair users prefer joystick locomotion as it mirrors their real-world mobility pattern of remaining seated while moving through space.
