BLV Users
Also known as: Blind and Low Vision Users, BLV People
People who are blind or have low vision, encompassing a spectrum of visual impairments from total blindness to varying degrees of remaining vision (light perception, tunnel vision, blurred vision, etc.). BLV users are a primary user group for many accessibility technologies including screen readers, magnification software, Braille displays, and AI-powered visual access tools. The BLV community is diverse in terms of onset (congenital vs. acquired), degree of vision loss, technology preferences, and strategies for accessing visual information. Research involving BLV users emphasizes the importance of recognizing this diversity rather than treating the community as monolithic.
