Visual Verification
Also known as: Visual Fact-Checking
The process of confirming the accuracy of information by visually inspecting the original source material. In accessibility contexts, visual verification represents a fundamental challenge for blind and low vision users who cannot directly compare AI-generated descriptions against the original images. This inability to visually verify creates a significant power imbalance where BLV users must trust AI outputs or develop alternative verification strategies such as cross-checking across tools, using other senses, retaking photos from different angles, or consulting sighted individuals. The impossibility of visual verification for BLV users makes trust calibration and variation surfacing approaches particularly important.
