Voice Acting

Also known as: Voice Performance, Character Voicing

The performance art of providing voices for characters, narration, and other spoken content in media such as animation, audiobooks, games, and audio-described content. In accessible media production, voice acting significantly impacts emotional engagement and immersion—professional voice actors are rated highest for emotional delivery but are costly and labor-intensive. For audio-described webtoons, different characters should have distinct vocal timbres to ensure distinguishability (e.g., reserved characters with softer tones, energetic characters with brighter voices), and overlapping vocal timbres should be avoided in dialogue. Research recommends a hybrid production model combining AI-generated narration for most content with professional voice acting for emotionally pivotal scenes.
