Accessibility Technology

A broad term encompassing any technology used to address accessibility barriers, including both dedicated assistive technologies and mainstream technologies repurposed for access. Unlike the narrower term assistive technology, accessibility technology recognizes that people may use general-purpose tools like generative AI, smartphones, or built-in operating system features to meet access needs without formal AT assessment or provision. This broader framing is increasingly relevant as mainstream technologies gain accessibility capabilities.
