E-Book Accessibility
Also known as: Electronic Book Accessibility, Digital Book Accessibility
The design and implementation of electronic books to be usable by people with disabilities, including proper semantic structure, text resizing, reflowable content, alternative text for images, compatibility with screen readers, and customizable visual presentation. Despite the potential of e-books for accessible reading (through adjustable fonts, spacing, and background colors), research on e-book reading support technologies has been minimal, with only one study in 25 years of HCI reading support research specifically targeting e-books. E-book accessibility standards are addressed by EPUB Accessibility specifications.
