Longitudinal Study

Also known as: Long-Term Study

A research method that involves repeated observations or measurements of the same subjects over an extended period of time. In accessibility and reading support research, longitudinal studies are important for evaluating the sustained impact of interventions, tracking skill development, and understanding how technology use evolves over time. Despite their value, longitudinal studies are extremely rare in reading support technology research — only one study in 25 years of HCI publications employed this method — highlighting a significant methodological gap in the field.
