Screen Reader User

Also known as: SRU

A person who uses screen reader software as their primary means of accessing digital content, typically someone who is blind or has low vision. Screen reader users interact with web content through audio output and keyboard or gesture-based navigation, experiencing pages sequentially rather than visually. Research consistently shows significant time and effort disparities between screen reader users and sighted users when completing equivalent web tasks, with screen reader users often taking 2-10 times longer. Understanding screen reader user workflows is essential for designing accessible web experiences.
