Web Content Filtering
Also known as: Content Filtering, Page Filtering
The process of selectively displaying or hiding elements on a webpage based on specified criteria. Web content filtering encompasses both type-based filtering (e.g., ad blockers that remove advertisements) and relevance-based filtering (e.g., task-specific systems that assess each element's usefulness for a given goal). For screen reader users, content filtering can dramatically improve navigation efficiency by reducing the amount of content that must be traversed sequentially. Effective filtering must balance removing distractions with preserving page structure and ensuring important elements are not accidentally hidden.
