Adaptive Interface
Also known as: Adaptive UI, Self-Adapting Interface
A user interface that automatically adjusts its layout, content, or behavior based on user context, abilities, preferences, or device constraints without requiring explicit user configuration. Adaptive interfaces in accessibility research have included systems that modify visual presentation for users with low vision, simplify content for users with cognitive disabilities, and optimize navigation for screen reader users. Unlike customizable interfaces where users manually set preferences, adaptive interfaces use models of user behavior, device capabilities, or task context to make adjustments automatically.
