Technology Ecosystem
Also known as: Tech Ecosystem
The interconnected network of hardware, software, services, infrastructure, professionals, and support systems that collectively determine whether a technology can be effectively used and sustained. In assistive technology contexts, the technology ecosystem extends well beyond the device itself to include assessment services, training programs, maintenance and repair capacity, funding mechanisms, internet connectivity, electricity supply, and community awareness. Research consistently shows that assistive technology failures in the Global South are often ecosystem failures rather than technology failures — the device may work but the surrounding system cannot support its effective use.
