Differentiated Instruction

Also known as: Differentiated Teaching, Individualized Instruction

A teaching approach that tailors instruction, content, process, and assessment to meet the diverse learning needs of individual students within a classroom. Differentiated instruction is particularly challenging in multi-grade classrooms at schools for the blind, where students span multiple grade levels, have varying degrees of Braille literacy, and may have transferred from mainstream schools without foundational skills. TVIs currently differentiate primarily through peer learning groups and oral repetition, but generative AI could help by generating grade-appropriate content, practice questions, and assessments tailored to individual student levels.
