On-Device Processing
Also known as: Local Processing, Edge Processing
Computing performed directly on a user's device (phone, tablet, or wearable) rather than sending data to external servers. On-device processing is particularly valuable for privacy-sensitive accessibility features because it keeps personal visual data under the user's control, minimizing security risks associated with transmitting images or video to remote servers. Assessment descriptors and lightweight AI models can be generated on-device, though more complex processing may require cloud-based alternatives.
