Group Narrative

Also known as: Collaborative Storytelling, Co-Signing Performance

A collaborative storytelling activity deeply rooted in Deaf culture and communities where two or more signers jointly perform a story using sign language, often with exaggerated and creative expression. In a typical group narrative, one person stands in front handling non-manual signs while another person behind performs the manual signs (or jointly performs with the front signer). This playful activity is common at Deaf schools, social gatherings, and community events, serving as entertainment, social bonding, and cultural transmission. CoSignPlay draws directly on this tradition for its collaborative avatar-signing design.
