Situated Learning Theory

Also known as: Situated Cognition

An educational theory proposing that learning is most effective when it occurs in authentic contexts naturally tied to the activity, culture, and environment where the knowledge will be used. In sign language education, situated learning supports embedding ASL practice in real-life social scenarios (such as ordering food in a restaurant or navigating a workplace) rather than isolated vocabulary drills, helping learners acquire language that functions in actual communicative settings.
