Visual Fatigue
Also known as: Eye Strain, Asthenopia, Visual Strain
Discomfort, tiredness, or reduced visual performance resulting from prolonged or intensive visual tasks. For people with low vision, visual fatigue can occur more quickly because they must exert greater effort to see, often using non-optimal parts of their retina (eccentric viewing) or relying heavily on magnification. In AR and VR contexts, visual fatigue may be exacerbated by head-mounted displays due to factors like vergence-accommodation conflict, limited field of view, brightness levels, and the sustained concentration required to interact with virtual content.
