Community Sustainability

Also known as: Research Sustainability

The principle that research practices should not deplete, harm, or overburden the communities from which participants are recruited. In accessibility research, community sustainability requires considering the cumulative impact of multiple studies drawing from the same disability communities, ensuring that participation is adequately compensated, that research findings benefit the community, and that recruitment practices build rather than erode trust. Sustainable practices include maintaining long-term community partnerships, sharing research outcomes with participants, and involving community members in research design.
