On-Screen Text
Also known as: OST, Visual Text, Burned-In Text
Text that appears visually within video content, including titles, subtitles, captions, signs, labels, credits, and any other written information displayed on screen. On-screen text must be read aloud or referenced in audio descriptions to ensure BLV users have access to this information. Describing on-screen text is one of the most tedious aspects of AD authoring, making it a prime candidate for AI assistance. AD guidelines specify establishing a pattern for reading on-screen text and announcing subtitles when they appear.
