Level of Detail

Also known as: LOD

A technique in computer graphics and information design where the amount of detail presented varies based on context, typically distance or user interaction. In 3-D environments, objects farther from the viewer are rendered with less geometric detail to improve performance. In accessibility, level of detail is used as a progressive disclosure strategy: objects far from a BLV user's avatar in a virtual environment reveal only basic labels, while approaching closer reveals child objects and more granular information, helping manage cognitive load during non-visual exploration.
