Ray Casting

Also known as: Raycasting

An interaction technique in 3-D environments where an invisible ray is projected from a point (such as a user's finger position or controller) into the virtual scene to determine which object the ray intersects first. In VR accessibility, ray casting translates 2-D touch input on a screen into 3-D object selection by casting a ray from the touch point through the virtual camera into the scene. This enables BLV users to identify and select virtual objects through familiar touch interactions rather than requiring precise spatial pointing in 3-D space.
