Neurodivergence

Also known as: Neurodiversity, Neurodivergent

The natural variation in human neurological development and functioning that includes conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety disorders, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological differences. The neurodiversity paradigm frames these differences as natural human variation rather than deficits to be corrected. In technology design, recognising neurodivergence means understanding that neurodivergent individuals may have different communication styles, work preferences, sensory needs, and interaction patterns that require systems to move beyond neurotypical assumptions.
