Lubben Social Network Scale

Also known as: LSNS, LSNS-6

A validated screening instrument used to assess social isolation risk in older adults by measuring the size and closeness of their social networks. The abbreviated LSNS-6 version contains six items covering family and friend networks, asking about the number of relatives and friends seen or heard from regularly, those who can be called on for help, and those with whom personal matters can be discussed. Scores below 12 on the LSNS-6 indicate risk for social isolation. The scale is widely used in gerontology and public health research and has been translated into multiple languages. It provides a practical tool for identifying individuals who may benefit from social support interventions.
