AI-Fabrication

The use of artificial intelligence tools, particularly generative AI, to support the design and manufacturing of physical objects through digital fabrication methods such as 3D printing and laser cutting. In assistive technology contexts, AI-fabrication combines text-to-image and image-to-3D generation pipelines to enable users without advanced CAD skills to create customized devices. While AI-fabrication shows promise for democratizing AT creation, current systems face challenges including bias toward generic designs, lack of disability-specific training data, inability to handle precise dimensional specifications, and limited understanding of specialized assistive technology terminology.
