Matching Person and Technology
Also known as: MPT Model
A framework for understanding assistive technology adoption that considers the match between a person's characteristics (preferences, needs, lifestyle), the environmental context, and the technology's features. Developed by Marcia Scherer, the MPT model frames AT adoption as a process of aligning user preferences, environmental characteristics, and device usability. While more holistic than the Technology Acceptance Model, MPT still primarily treats adoption as an outcome of individual fit rather than examining the broader power dynamics, institutional barriers, and socioeconomic forces that shape whether meaningful AT choice is available to users in the first place.
