Sonic Agency
The right and ability to influence and interact with sound in a meaningful way, regardless of one's hearing ability. Sonic agency extends beyond auditory perception to encompass visual, tactile, and kinesthetic forms of musical expression, as well as access to the tools, spaces, and feedback systems where sound is created, shared, and experienced. For d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, sonic agency means having the capacity to shape sound—whether through music, sign language, technology, or performance—as active creators rather than passive consumers.
