Accessible Relocation
Also known as: Accessible Migration
The process of moving to a new city or country while maintaining or re-establishing access to disability-related services, accommodations, and support networks. Accessible relocation involves challenges at every phase: researching accessibility conditions of the destination beforehand, customizing access needs in a new built environment, navigating unfamiliar disability bureaucracies, overcoming language barriers that block interpersonal problem-solving, and connecting with local disabled communities. The concept highlights how relocation amplifies existing accessibility barriers and creates new ones as established strategies and support systems are disrupted.
