Human Augmentation

Also known as: Body Augmentation, Augmentative Technology

Technologies that extend or enhance human physical or cognitive capabilities beyond their current state, including robotic exoskeletons, prosthetic limbs, sensory substitution devices, and brain-computer interfaces. In disability and accessibility contexts, human augmentation reframes assistive technology from a compensatory model (replacing lost function) to an expansive one (enabling new capabilities). This shift is significant because it positions disabled people not as deficient bodies needing repair but as pioneers exploring new forms of embodiment and interaction that may ultimately benefit everyone.
