Semantic Navigation

Also known as: Semantic Navigation Framework, Structured Navigation

An approach to organizing digital content into a meaningful hierarchical structure that users can navigate through logically ordered elements rather than by spatial position. In the context of accessible data visualizations, semantic navigation frameworks arrange chart components (such as axes, data series, filters, and individual data points) into a tree-like structure that can be explored using familiar assistive technology gestures like swiping and double-tapping. This approach complements direct touch exploration by providing structured overview and context, helping users understand the organization and scope of data before diving into specific values.
