Gesture Input
Also known as: Gestural Input, Gesture-Based Input
A form of human-computer interaction where users perform physical movements—such as swipes, taps, pinches, or mid-air hand motions—to issue commands or provide input to a digital device. Gesture input is fundamental to touchscreen smartphones, tablets, and increasingly to wearable devices like smartwatches and smart rings. For users with motor or visual disabilities, the design of gesture input must account for variations in dexterity, range of motion, tremor, and the ability to perform precise or multi-finger movements, making accessible gesture design a critical area of interaction research.
