Community Based Participatory Research

Also known as: CBPR, Participatory Action Research

A research methodology that creates equitable partnerships between researchers and community members throughout the entire research process, from defining research questions to disseminating findings. CBPR aims to reduce health and social disparities by ensuring that the people most affected by research outcomes are actively involved in shaping the research. In accessibility contexts, CBPR involves people with disabilities as co-researchers and decision-makers rather than solely as study subjects. This approach is particularly valued in Deaf community research, where it helps ensure that studies address genuine community needs, use culturally appropriate methods, and produce results that benefit the community directly.
