Sign Language Dictionary

Also known as: SL Dictionary, ASL Dictionary

A reference tool that allows users to look up signs in a sign language, providing video demonstrations, definitions, and usage examples. Sign language dictionaries can be organized by English gloss (word-based lookup), linguistic features (handshape, location, movement), or increasingly through video-based search where users record themselves performing a sign for AI-powered matching. Unlike spoken language dictionaries, sign language dictionaries must convey three-dimensional spatial and temporal information, making video the primary medium. Accessible sign language dictionaries are critical for language learners, interpreters, and deaf education.
